CEL 201: Beginning Capacity Building

University Studies

This course will allow second-year students in the Bonner Leaders Program the opportunity to craft their Capstone Proposal by the end of academic year 2022-23. Through intentional projects at their internship sites and related classroom discussions, activities, and assignments, Bonners will begin to move into a more self-guided experience as they become more informed about issue areas of their interest.

As most students enter into the second year at their Bonner internship sites, they will begin to transition their roles as student interns into student coordinators. The intent is for students to have more responsibility and agency in designing projects, activities, and/or programs at their sites with approval and guidance from their supervisor, e.g., a student working at a school-based site will now begin to co-create and design activities for the students rather than having these materials given to them as was the case their first year. As students begin to lead these projects on their sites, reflections and other assignments in class will allow students to recognize which potential projects they can explore for their Capstone Proposal, to be submitted in spring 2023. Students will begin to research the root causes of issues that relate to their program proposal reflected in a summative document to be submitted by the end of the fall semester.
