Description
The study of German provides students with the practical instruction in a second language required to function in a nonnative environment, as well as the cultural awareness and intellectual strategies necessary to successfully navigate a foreign landscape.

Course Requirements
A major in German for the B.A. degree requires 30 semester hours at the 200 level, including German (Germ) 303, 304, and at least 9 hours at the 500 level. A maximum of 6 hours for the major may be taken at the 200 level. Up to 3 hours of 300 level MLLL may be substituted for 3 hours of 300 level German. Students must complete a minimum of 9 of the 30 upper-division credits in residence on the University of Mississippi campus at Oxford, Tupelo, or Southaven. A maximum of 15 of the 30 upper- division credits for the major may be taken through an approved study abroad program. Students must complete an emphasis in business or cultural studies. The cultural studies emphasis may include any 6 hours of Germ credit at the 300 level or above (in addition to Germ 303 and 304). The business emphasis must include Germ 311 (Business German), and Germ 394 (German Internship) in addition to Germ 303 and 304.
Other Academic Requirements
Grades lower than C in modern languages courses will not be counted toward the major or minor in modern languages.
