The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Minor - Latin American & Caribbean Stud

Description

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies minor is a multidisciplinary program that gives students a critical understanding of Latin America and the Caribbean in a global context. Through the various approaches offered in coursework from different fields, students develop critical thinking and intercultural competencies that will serve them in careers related to Latin America and the Caribbean’s increasing global significance.

Course Requirements

The general emphasis is designed for students who wish to emphasize knowledge about the region rather than language competency, or for students who already speak one of the approved languages. Students must complete 18 hours from the approved course list. Up to 6 hours of 200-level Spanish, Portuguese, or French may count toward this requirement. Students must choose at least 12 hours from the approved course list below in two different departments, excluding modern languages.

The language-focused emphasis is designed for students who wish to emphasize language competency as a part of their knowledge of a region. Students must complete 9 hours in one language chosen from any Spanish, Portuguese, or French courses from the list below at the 300-level or above. The remaining 9 hours must be non-language courses in the approved list below from at least two different departments. 100 and 200-level Spanish, Portuguese, and French courses do not count toward the language-focused track.

A grade of C or higher is required in all courses applied toward the minor.
