UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

B.A. in Theatre Arts

Description

The B.A. in theatre arts is a comprehensive, flexible degree that allows students to study various aspects of theatre such as performance ( acting, musical theatre, dance), theatrical production (stage management, directing), design (scenic, costumes, lighting, sound), film production, dramaturgy, theatre history, and dramatic literature. The B.A. degree is designed for students who want to teach, to pursue graduate education, to work in the entertainment industry, or to complement a double major or dual degree program.

Minimum Total Credit Hours: 120

Course Requirements

A major in theatre arts for the B.A. degree requires the following courses:

Thea 322. Theatre History II 3
Thea 326. Dramatic Literature I 3
Thea 327. Dramatic Literature II 3
Other Theatre Requirements Hours
Thea 120. Intro to Theatre, Film, and Dance 3
Thea 121. Creative Thinking 3
Two of the following: Thea 270, 271, 272 Basic Lighting & Sound Technology; Stagecraft; Introduction to Costumes for the Stage 6
Thea 338. Technology Lab I 1
Thea 339. Technology Lab II 1
Thea 499. Senior Seminar 3
Theatre Electives 10

Eight (8) hours of dance courses may be counted toward the major, with no more than four (4) hours from dance technique courses (Danc 151-154, Danc 251-254, Danc 351-355, Danc 451-455).

Other Academic Requirements

A grade of C or higher is required on all theatre courses applied toward the major.
