The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Emphasis - Film Production

B.F.A. in Theatre Arts

Description

The B.F.A. in theatre arts is intended for individuals who seek a professional career in theatre or who wish preparation for graduate work in the discipline. The B.F.A. must be completed with an emphasis in either acting for stage and screen, design and theatre production, or film production. Students must have a successful audition or portfolio review by theatre arts faculty for admission to the B.F.A. degree program.

Minimum Total Credit Hours: 129

General Education Requirements

The general education requirements for the B.F.A. in theatre arts include the following courses (33-35 hours):

Course Requirements

A major in theatre arts for the B.F.A. degree requires 129 semester hours. Students are required to choose one of three emphases: acting, design/theatre technology, or musical theatre.

Other Academic Requirements

A grade of C or higher is required on all theatre courses applied toward the B.F.A. degree.

In addition to the core curriculum and theatre arts requirements, the emphasis in film production requires 9 hours of approved theatre arts electives and other elective hours chosen from any area, including theatre arts, to bring the total number of credits to 129 semester hours.

First Year Writing II 3 Complete one of the following courses with a passing grade: Liba 102, Writ 102 or Hon 102.
2 associated science labs 2 Successfully complete at least two science laboratory courses.
3 hrs math 3 Successfully complete 3 hours of Math except for Math 245 and Math 246.
6 hrs literature survey 6 Complete 6 hours of literature survey with a passing grade. Choose from the following courses: Engl 221, Engl 222, Engl 223, Engl 224, Engl 225, or Engl 226.
6 hrs history 6 Complete 6 hours of History coursework with a passing grade.
6 hrs behavioral/social sciences 6 Successfully complete 6 semester hours in anthropology, economics, political science, psychology or sociology.
6-8 hrs science 6 Complete 6-8 hours of natural science courses with labs from the following areas: biology, chemistry, geology, physics, or astronomy.
