Phcy 421: Pharmaceutics and Calculations I

This course is designed to teach those basic principles of physics and chemistry that are necessary to understand pharmaceutical active ingredients, dosage forms and their design. This course reviews basic arithmetic skills and fundamentals of pharmaceutical measurement. It also introduces basic pharmaceutical calculations encountered in the contemporary practice of pharmacy. This course is providing introduction to and continuous development of pharmacy practice skills and behaviors, emphasizing active learning for integration and application of curricular content and incremental development of professional and general abilities. The skills lab provides an understanding of various dosage forms and drug delivery systems, and how medicinal and pharmaceutical substances are incorporated into them. The dispensing and extemporaneous compounding of many of these agents will be practiced.
