The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Degree Requirements

The academic regulations for this degree program, as entered in the University of Mississippi Catalog, are in effect for the current or selected academic year and semester. The University of Mississippi reserves the right to 1) change or withdraw courses; 2) change rules for registration, instruction, and graduation; and 3) change other regulations affecting the student body at any time.

Ph.D. in Psychology

Requirement Hours Description
Select an emphasis Select one of the Ph.D. in Psychology emphasis: Experimental Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
GPA requirements A cumulative average of not less than 3.0 (B) must be achieved in all graduate work taken.
Liberal Arts Dean's approval This Degree Audit program is an advising tool only. The student must still apply for a degree by returning a completed Degree Application Form to the dean's office before the last day to add classes in the semester preceding the semester in which the stuent expects to graduate. The Dean's Office will make the final certification that the courses listed on the application qualify the student for graduation. The Dean's Office will also determine if other university requirements (GPA, etc.) have been met.

Psy 603 - C min 3 Complete Psy 603 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 604 - C min 3 Complete Psy 604 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 610 - C min 3 Complete Psy 610 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 611 - C min 3 Complete Psy 611 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 621 - C min 2 Complete Psy 621 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 622 - C min 3 Complete Psy 622 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 624 6 Successfully complete at least 2 semesters of Psy 624.
Psy 625 6 Successfully complete at least two semesters of Psy 625.
Psy 626 6 Complete at least two semesters of Psy 626.
Psy 628 6 Successfully complete at least two semesters of Psy 628.
Psy 629 - C min 3 Complete Psy 629 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 631 - C min 3 Complete Psy 631 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 641 - C min 3 Complete Psy 641 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 648 - C min 3 Complete Psy 648 with a grade of C or better.
Cognitive psychology 1 Student must complete a course in the area of cognitive psychology. The course must be approved by the student's GPC/Chair.
Developmental psychology 1 Student must complete a course in the area of developmental psychology. The course must be approved by the student's GPC/Chair.
Elective courses 3 Student must complete three elective courses. All courses must be approved by the student's GPC/Chair.
Physiological psychology 1 Student must complete a course in the area of physiological psychology. Course must be approved by the student's GPC/Chair.
Social psychology 1 Student must complete a course in the area of social psychology approved by hsi/her GPC/Chair.

Psy 604 - C min 3 Complete Psy 604 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 617 - C min 2 Complete Psy 617 with a grade of C or better.
Psy 648 - C min 3 Complete Psy 648 with a grade of C or better.
Add'l course work 2 Student must complete two other departmental courses excluding Psy 647, 697 and 797.
Core courses 12 Student must complete at least four courses from the six core courses of Psy 505, 607, 612, 615, 618 or 651.
