The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Degree Requirements

The academic regulations for this degree program, as entered in the University of Mississippi Catalog, are in effect for the current or selected academic year and semester. The University of Mississippi reserves the right to 1) change or withdraw courses; 2) change rules for registration, instruction, and graduation; and 3) change other regulations affecting the student body at any time.

Requirement Hours Description
Chem 545 3 Complete Chem 545.
Chem 600 3 Complete Chem 600 with a passing grade.
Chem 717 4 Complete at least 4 hours of Internship Seminar in College Chemistry credits (Chem 717).
Chem 796 6 Complete at least 6 hours of doctoral thesis credits (Chem 796).
Comprehensive exam Student must pass a comprehensive examination.
Core courses 12 Complete at least 12 hours of core courses chosen from the following: Chem 601, 512, 527, 531, and 671.
Education courses 6 Student must complete 6 hours of education courses emphasizing curriculum and course development. Each course must be approved by the student's GPC/Chair.
Final oral exam Student must pass a final oral examination.
Fundamental courses 6 Student complete an additional 6 hours of fundmental courses chosen from the following: Chem 519, 532, 544, and 563.
M.S. Chemistry requirements Students enrolling in the D. A. program are expected to have received a master's degree (M.S.) in chemistry. However, students with only an undergraduate degree in chemistry may enroll in the program provided they remedy any course deficiencies and complete two semester (6 hours) of laboratory or theoretical thesis research(Chem 697).
Related science 6 Student must complete 6 hours of related science course work (from two sciences) as approved by his/her GPC/Chair.
Seminars 3 Student must complete 3 hours of seminar.
Submit thesis Student must submit a thesis to his/her GPC/Chair. Regulations governing the style, format, paper, abstract and other matters may be found in "A Manual of Thesis and Dissertations" available in the Graduate School Office. After the oral examination has been accepted, the student must present to the Graduate School two unbound copies of the thesis. A copy of the abstract and the thesis binding fee receipt must accompany the copies of the thesis.
GPA requirements A cumulative average of not less than 3.0 (B) must be achieved in all graduate work taken.
Liberal Arts Dean's approval This Degree Audit program is an advising tool only. The student must still apply for a degree by returning a completed Degree Application Form to the dean's office before the last day to add classes in the semester preceding the semester in which the stuent expects to graduate. The Dean's Office will make the final certification that the courses listed on the application qualify the student for graduation. The Dean's Office will also determine if other university requirements (GPA, etc.) have been met.
