The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Track - Recreational Sports Leadership

B.A.P.R.M in Park & Recreation Mgmt.

Description

The B.A.P.R.M. degree program is designed to develop skills preparatory to leadership and supervisory roles in a variety of leisure service careers, including municipal, outdoor, therapeutic, military, church, youth, commercial/tourism, and industrial.

Minimum Total Credit Hours: 124

General Education Requirements

The general education/core requirements for the B.A.P.R.M. degree include Engl 101, Engl 102 or Liba 102 (6 hours); literature (6 hours); fine arts (3 hours); history (3 hours); humanities (3 hours to be selected from African American studies, classics, gender studies, modern languages, philosophy, religion or southern studies), 3 hours selected from anthropology, history, sociology, or political science; Math 121 (3 hours); elementary statistics (3 hours); science with lab (6-8 hours); and Psy 201.

Course Requirements

The B.A.P.R.M. degree requires the following courses: HP 203, HP 191, PRM 194, 200, 301, 302, 332, 362, 425, 471, 391, 400, and 401. All PRM majors must complete one 13-hour specialization (selected from Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Leadership, Tourism, or Outdoor Recreation and Interpretation). This specialization must be declared before enrolling in PRM 401 (Internship). In addition, the following other specific courses are required: Csci 191, 192, or 193 (3 hours); Psy 301 or FCS 323 (3 hours); Mktg 351; Mgmt 371; Mgmt 383; Jour 102; speech (3 hours); and general electives to bring the total number of hours to at least 124.

Other Academic Requirements

Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the professional PRM core courses presented for their degree.

First Year Writing I 3 Complete Hon 101, Writ 100 or Writ 101 with a passing grade.
First Year Writing II 3 Complete one of the following courses with a passing grade: Liba 102, Writ 102 or Hon 102.
Psy 201 3 Complete Psy 201 with a passing grade.
3 hrs Arts Appreciation 3 Complete 3 hours in the area of fine or performing arts. Choose from art history, music, dance, and theatre arts. Studio and workshop courses cannot be used to satisfy this requirement. Acceptable freshman or sophommore-level courses are: AH 101, AH 102, AH 201, AH 202; Music 101, Music 102, Music 103, Music 104, Music 105; Dance 200; and Theatre 201.
3 hrs statistics course 3 Sucessfully complete a statistic course from the following list of courses: CJ 202, Math 115, Econ 230, Bus 230 or Psy 202.

General Education II

Requirement Hours Description
Math 121 3 Complete Math 121 with a passing grade.
3 hrs humanities 3 Successfully complete 3 credit hours in humanities chosen from the following areas: African American Studies, classical civilization, gender studies, philosophy, modern or ancient languages, religion, or southern studies.
3 hrs history 3 Successfully complete 3 credit hours of history.
3 hrs social science 3 Successfully complete 3 credit hours of social science chosen from the following areas: anthropology, history, sociology, or political science.
6 hrs literature 200+ 6 Complete 6 credit hours of literature at the 200 level or higher.
6-8 hrs science 6 Complete 6-8 hours of natural science courses with labs from the following areas: biology, chemistry, geology, physics, or astronomy.
2 science labs 8 Successfully complete at least two science laboratory courses. Courses may be chosen from the departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geology and Geological Engineering, or Physics and Astronomy.
