SW 660: Clinical Practice and Supervision
Social Work
Interactive clinical practice and supervisory skills that social workers need for practice, supervision, and consultation in the clinical setting are covered. The students will examine the dynamics of both the clinician/client and supervisory relationship and roles. Students will examine and explore foundational concepts of advanced clinical practice as well as supervisory theory and practice in clinical settings. Students will develop knowledge and skills in balancing the complexities of both clinical and supervisory roles, relationships, and process. Major clinical and supervisory functions will be emphasized as important concepts in grappling with today’s practice realities--such as --such as engagement, assessment (including strengths), therapeutic and supervisory models that can be used across modalities, ethical issues in clinical practice and supervision, and becoming a culturally competent clinician and supervisor. The course will promote understanding of clinical supervision and its critical role in continuing professional growth by examining both sides of the supervisory process.
