Overview

The Department of Teacher Education offers the Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A.E.) degree in the areas of elementary education, secondary education (English, mathematics, science, and social studies), special education, early childhood education, and health and physical education. The department also offers a minor in education.
At the graduate level, the department offers the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in curriculum and instruction in elementary education, secondary education, special education, and early childhood education; the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Teaching (Elementary and Secondary); the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in curriculum and instruction, the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in elementary education, early childhood education, secondary education, and special education.

Accreditation

The School of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and all Teacher Education programs are approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). The School of Education also holds membership in the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE).

General Requirements

Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate students are admitted to the School of Education in accordance with university requirements and any additional requirements established by the School of Education and individual programs. Some programs may have additional admission, progression, field experience, or clinical practice requirements. Because program and licensure requirements may change, students should work closely with their advisors in the Student Advising and Field Experience (SAFE) Office to ensure that all current requirements are met.

Graduate Programs

Admission requirements for graduate programs in the School of Education vary by degree and program. Applicants must meet University Graduate School requirements as well as any additional academic, professional, licensure, experience, or application requirements established by the individual program. Prospective and current graduate students should consult their academic program and the School of Education Graduate Studies Office for the most current requirements and guidance.
