Astronomy Minor

Description

A minor in Astronomy familiarizes students with the main concepts in astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. It introduces the main facts about the solar system, stellar and galactic astronomy, and cosmology; develops some of the theory needed to understand the astrophysics of those systems; and teaches students some of the observational techniques, including telescopes and astrophotography.

Course Requirements

The minor in astronomy requires a total of 15 credit hours in lecture and laboratory courses. This includes either ASTR 1110 Descriptive Astronomy or ASTR 1312 Intro Astronomy of Stars and Galaxies, ASTR 2312 Astronomy of Stars and Galaxies, and an additional 9 credit hours chosen from Astronomy courses at the 3000-level or 4000-level, or PHYS 3310 Introduction to Modern Physics I.
