Academic Year and Academic Calendar

The university operates on the semester system. Fall semester begins in mid-August and ends in mid-December. Spring semester begins in mid-January and ends in early May. The summer session consists of five terms: First Summer, Second Summer, Full Summer, May Intersession, and August Intersession. The first and Second Summer sessions are each  approximately four weeks in length and provide the same number of classroom hours as a traditional semester course. The Full Summer session spans 10 weeks and includes selected courses offered through the College of Liberal Arts and the professional schools, as well as all courses offered by the School of Law. The May and August Intersessions are intensive two-week terms.

Undergraduate students may earn up to 14 semester hours of credit during the summer. The Summer Session provides flexible opportunities for students to accelerate degree completion, improve academic standing, or make up deficiencies. It also serves educators seeking advanced degrees or certification advancement while employed during the regular academic year. Additionally, the Summer Session allows incoming freshman to begin their college studies before the start of the fall semester.
